What is your title?
Library Assistant
What are your main responsibilities?
Helping students with our many databases in their research, attending the circulation desk, and representing the LRC at New Student Orientations.
What do you like most about working in the library?
Refilling the paper for the copiers while down on my knees–just kidding! I find the academic environment to be extremely invigorating and inspiring. I enjoy working with students of all ages, from all walks-from all over the world. You meet some real characters, and I continue to learn along with them.
What do you wish students knew about the library?
All of the wonderful databases of information that they have access to at the touch of their fingertips.
What are your hobbies?
Learning old-time fiddle tunes on the banjo and acoustic guitar. I love to spend time getting to know my 3 cats–as boring as that might sound. I am a dog person, but I’ve really learned to appreciate my cats, and have learned patience by letting them be themselves rather than how I want them to be. Also, reading, quiet times at home, and jamming with friends.
Who’s at home with you?
1 adopted calico cat named Maddie Puffball and 2 sibling all-black cats that I found in the storage shed. Their names are Forrest and Ginny.
What’s your favorite television show?
24–without a doubt. but I still totally crack up at Seinfeld, Frasier, and Will and Grace. Ellen is a stitch, and I enjoy the History Channel, PBS specials, and aren’t you glad you asked?
Favorite Movie?
So many in different categories. I loved the trilogy of the Lord of the Rings–probably because I’d listened, first, to the entire book on tape and understood it well enough to follow every character. Years ago, a classic was A Star is Born with Streisand and Kristofferson–the music was great (but I was 17). Loved Places of the Heart, Steel Magnolias, and John Candy in Trains, Planes, and Automobiles.
Favorite Book?
How about the top 5, since it’s too hard to pick one.
What is a saying you live by?
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
It works as a great life ethic in every single situation with everyone.
What is one thing people would never guess about you just by looking?
Probably that I have been a professional musician since I was 19, was a recording artist on Capitol Records, have performed all over the world, and been nominated for a Grammy. I hope that doesn’t sound too braggish.
Anything else?
