The Monday Motivator: 3 Good Things

Posted by: JollyLibrarian on: March 16, 2009

This comes from Richard O’ Connor, Ph.D. , author of Happy at Last. This exercise has been shown to increase feelings of happiness and decrease feelings of depression.

Each night before going to bed, think (or write down) three good things that happened that day. They can be small or large, anything that made you smile or feel good. For each item, answer the question, “Why did this thing happen?”

That’s it. Pretty simple!  But it does work. This is one that I’ve tried.

Excellent idea!

I did actually drop some things off at Goodwill, great tax deduction, too!

I’ve been trying to jot down three good things on my blog every day (http://three-good-things.blogspot.com/) and it really does work — I’ve been doing it for several months now and I find that I really look forward to thinking about these small pleasurable items, and that when I’m feeling down about something else, it is easy to remember that at least I’ve had 3 good things in my life today.
