I think "Thriller" is the all time best video ever made.

And I think your statement is a very true one: We are more than any one decision we have made. One of McNair's teammates said that he too had made mistakes, but unlike McNair, he still had time to fix them.

Thanks, Faye. We are, each of us, more than any one decision that we make or action that we take. For me, the death of Michael Jackson causes me to reflect on my own life as well as his (we are close in age). He certainly is part of the "sound track" of my memories. I'd like to try to see if I could watch the Thriller video enough to tire of it...I don't think its possible!

'people can be both mean and noble.' I like that. Or sleazy and completely aboveboard. Or violent and peaceful, arrogant and humble, generous and miserly, clueless and insightful, or any number of other contradictions merged into one individual. And not just mood swings over time, but co-existing at one time. Whoever heard of being both jolly and a librarian, after all? Such we are, as humans; perhaps the defining characteristic of our species in not an opposable thumb and tool use, but co-existing contradiction. Somebody at a party on the 4th of July raved about what a marvelous man McNair was for his help with the Dismas House organization. Verily, he was not Gandhi, but even Gandhi beat his wife for refusing chamber pot duty.
