A New Year, A New Project: The Library Life Listers

As the new year begins, the library staff has decided to take on another project to improve ourselves and, inadvertently, provide entertainment to the rest of the campus. This year, we are going to take on our bucket lists; we are listing the things we want to do before we die and work on putting those items in the forefront of our minds.

As usual, we invite everyone to come along with us on this journey. Make up your own list and share with us. And maybe you’ll see some things from our lists to add to yours as well.  We’ll be documenting our successes and failures throughout the year. So follow along every Wednesday on the Jolly Librarian.

For those of you not familiar with the idea of the bucket or life list, here are a couple of links that will provide the basic information:

  1. For my Psychology of Adjustment class, I have the students do bucket lists after watching “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch. He was a professor at Carnegie-Mellon, who was dying from pancreatic cancer. You can watch this inspirational lecture on youtube.com. This summer one of my 22 year old students died from Cystic Fibrosis and her sister read her bucket list at her funeral. It was bittersweet because you could see how many things she HAD accomplished along with how she was working toward the things she never got to do.
